"Should pet dogs wear clothes in summer?"

Our answer to that question is: for some dogs, yes. And the reasons are simple.

 

1. Protect the body surface temperature from rising too fast📍.

Dogs' bodies don't regulate temperature in the same way that we do. Dogs don't cool off by getting their skin to sweat and evaporate. They rely on evaporation of fluid from the surface of their tongue and nose. So, having a "non-sweaty" skin exposed will only cause the dog's body temperature to rise too quickly. 

Wearing a thin, breathable piece of clothing creates a "protective layer" between the hot environment and your dog's skin, so that your dog's surface temperature doesn't rise too quickly (this is also why you shouldn't shave your dog's hair too short in summer).
